Dyslexia is more common than you think!

Reading challenges and struggles are all around us. Sometimes we, or people we know, struggle with a reading disability and are not even aware.

One of the most prevalent reading challenges is dyslexia. About 15-20% of the global population has dyslexia. This includes 8.5 million Canadians and 43.5 million Americans. Additionally, dyslexia affects males and females at similar rates, as well as those from different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Online Reading Tutor does not just provide tutoring and assistance to those with dyslexia, it can help anyone who finds reading challenging, at any age, from any country.

Other common reading disorders and challenges can include auditory processing disorders and visual processing disorders. In addition, there are many other learning and emotional challenges related to dyslexia that can have high concordance rates, which means the presence of other conditions accompanying dyslexia. Examples of such conditions are ADHD and ADD.

ORT is a one-stop-shop, where clients can understand their underlying problems and struggles and also receive the proper help in order to work through them..

No matter the problem, ORT’s private one-on-one tutoring sessions, and online practice sessions ensure that the learner can get the attention they need to succeed while also being able to complete the work when they want to. The private tutoring sessions allow for the attention to be solely focused on the learner and what they specifically need to work on. “I am blown away with the entire program”, one mom stated in her testimonial as she discussed how glad she was that she chose ORT to help her son.

When it comes to being diagnosed with a reading disability, the earlier the diagnosis and intervention, the better.

A common problem for millions is simply recognizing that they have a problem that is affecting their ability to learn to read. This issue can be alleviated through our free dyslexia screener which assists individuals in figuring out the root cause of their reading challenges. This free screening assessment can be found in our dyslexia training app. It is the first stage that all our learners must complete in their reading improvement journey.

This assessment takes less than 30 minutes and will test your learner’s reading and decoding skills through a variety of exercises. The screener will provide a detailed and accurate report along with explanations on what exactly the specific areas of struggle are. One of our parents with a child in the program describes how impressed and glad she was that her daughter took the screener test in her testimonial.

The current school system in Ontario is proven to be ineffective at teaching reading and literacy skills for those with disabilities and challenges like dyslexia. This pushes more families to seek extra help in order to ensure their learner’s success. Our Orton-Gillingham based training model focuses on the five areas outlined by the National Reading Panel as essential to building strong reading skills. These areas are phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. As we assist our students in strengthening their skills in these five areas, reading will become easy and stress-free as Julia explains in her testimonial.

We understand that many families cannot afford to spend thousands on official diagnoses and high-cost tutoring, nor should they, which is why we aim to have our services remain affordable and accessible for all income levels.
